Wouldn't it be helpful to see a Gmail-style snippet of your new emails visible when you unlock your phone? Or possibly a small calendar display so you can see at a glance that there's a meeting you're booked into later? I guess it might be difficult to integrate these things without dramatically reducing the space visible for apps but I can imagine a lot of people having a use for this kind of functionality and Apple is denying people the choice at the moment.
I think it may be useful for the lock screen. For home screen I don't think it's much more effective than just launching separate apps to look at mail or calendar.
Anyway, I don't think that it's bad to have widgets or customization, I just think that it's not that important. It will make iOS better, but only a tiny bit better, it won't be any huge step forward.

For example, if I run Word on PC and click open file, then it will show me the whole filesystem with thousands of browseable folders, but only few of them actually contain any Word documents. Ideally, what I should be able to see instead is list of all Word documents on my computer and all connected devices in a very organized way that makes it easy to find any document in less than a second. I shouldn't care that one part of a report is in my local folder, another part is on flash drive and some other part is written by another dude and is on a network server, but file system wants me to care of these irrelevant things. I can think of hundreds other examples where file system gets in the way of organization and productivity. Basically, it's not the best way to manage documents and media and it should be superseded by something entirely different. And IMHO for Apple moving forward is so principal that they are willing to reject archaic ways of doing some things even if it's currently the ONLY way of doing them. Apple is like - do it the best way or don't do it at all.

As much as I wish it would happen, I doubt Apple has fully internalized that the glossy glass screens were a horrendous design decision. I bet is it'll be two more years until they will be forever phased out, along with the enormous black bezels on the majority of products. But Apple is typically slow in realizing their mistakes, no surprise given their successes.

Let's face it: Apple is a monopoly, but with such a small market share, it is a monopoly that we have freely chosen to deal with. We Mac consumers cannot go to the DOJ and claim we have no alternatives (just because your alternatives suck doesn't mean you don't have them.) I am surrounded by windows, wonderful views, and don't want to close all my blinds and and be in the dark so that I can use my awesome reflective computer monitor. I appreciate that the glass may be wonderful for some, but understand that it is awful for others. The option for a matte screen is logical. Open your mind, respect the views of others, and stop being a tool.
Take what I say with a grain of salt though, I don't even have half a brain cell.

I use to remember the days when PC used to come with glossy screens to promote watching movies and a richer colour experience, and the Mac community used to comment that glossy was terrible (which I agree). Then the iMac started to adopt the glossy screen since watching movies were held more important than actual work and the PC were reverting and mixing matte screens back into they line-up, while Apple started to hesitate and only offered anti-glare as an option for a fee. Makes me sick really, why is there a fee for anti-glare. There was never a fee for glossy when it was being phased in initially. Even the ACD have gone glossy.
Lucky for me and others in the same boat as Dell offer matte displays, price competitive and a great warranty compared to :apple: glossy marketing junk of screen options. :p

Really good to see the update (finally)... but I am disappointed they didn't bring the 24" back :(
The 27" is too big, and the resolution on the 21.5 is laughable for an upgrade of this magnitude.
Still, quad core across the range is nice.
The biggest thing with the 27 is the yellow hue. Fonts. Glossy. And I like to change out my display and own the latest and greatest quite often, say every two years, or every year due to work at home.
Solution for me was I got a HP brightview 25.5. It is a MVA panel not quite as good viewing angles as the imac 27 IPS but with better black levels, deeper black levels, whiter whites, no yellow hue to speak of. Much better for graphical design work. Brightview technology has me hooked. All the benefits of a glossy and some of the benefits of a matte, less glare than the imac 27.

The HTC designs are all very good and made well. At the end of the day its hard to make phones look different. They are basically a large screen now. Lets just hope apple fix their breakable glass designs lol.

I never knew people were experiencing this many dropped calls. I guess I don't make calls enough to experience all the fail. AT&T is the only phone company I've had, so I don't know any different. If Verizon did get the iPhone, I'm sure their network would struggle a bit too.

Now I undertand that building this sort of infrastructure costs money and thus it is logical to assume that they would want to recoup some if not all of that investment. However, why would I want to stream music to my phone when I already have music on my phone?
I agree. It would make much more sense for VIDEO.

You have implied your own proof. The fact that they are in Court at all should tell you money is not going from the site to the record labels / artists etc.
The only reason the cases have failed is that its not illegal under Russian law. Russian sites are violating international law in making this content available, but international law is very, very difficult to enforce. Especially where the action is legal in the violating nation.

In the end, the iPhone 5 will probably be like this:
1. Will look like a "thicker" 4G iPod touch.
2. Display is now 4" IPS LCD touchscreen that goes almost all the way the edge of the device on the left and right side when you hold it vertically.
3. The back will now be grey color, mostly because the back is now a Liquidmetal metal back. We can rule out carbon fiber back due to normally high production costs for carbon fiber parts.
4. Will have completely redesigned antenna designed so you don't get signal loss regardless of how you hold the device.
5. Will use Apple A5 dual-core CPU/GPU.
6. Will use 512 MB system RAM (unless Apple can squeeze out another 256 MB of RAM internally).
7. Storage capacities will be 16, 32 and now 64 GB of flash memory.
8. Will use new Qualcomm or Broadcom cellphone chipset that supports GSM, CDMA and LTE so the iPhone 5 becomes a "universal" cellphone.
9. Will incorporate the latest Bluetooth 4.0 standard connectivity.
10. Will incorporate near-field communications connectivity that is at least compatible with the Sony-developed FeliCa standard (very necessary for use in Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea).

A lot of the features look great but the Spotlight screenshot has me worried. It looks like very little has changed with the results. The biggest failure of Spotlight for me has been the lack of the ability to sort your results by modification date. I used to use the find file to look for items on our server all the time, now it is totally useless because they show up alphabetically. I would have hoped that Apple would have gotten wise about that with Leopard. Apparently they havent listened to all the Mac users who think that Spotlight in Tiger is trash.
