Multimedia, in the Sept.12th thread, you said:
"I now predict a 50% chance the C2Q Mac will be unveiled tomorrow. And if not tomorrow no later than early November."
I guess that's what people disagreed with (although I haven't finished reading the whole thread yet). I agree with you that it is indeed really big news and I still can't quite wrap my mind around the idea, but I'd be extremely surprised if Apple announces anything Kentsfield later today. (It's already the 12th here in South Korea.)

Taxes, cell phone fees, gas and car prices are higher here. Pay for professional jobs also seems relatively lower compared to the US.
Yeah, plus medical bills don't bankrupt you personally. I'll take what you've got up there.

True, the Pentium M (Mobil Centrino) was a hudge sucess for Intel! The Pentium D (Desktop) was a dual-core disaster, pushing the old "NetBurst" Pentium 4 past all safe design limits.
Core 2 is the all new rework that saved Intel!
Core 2 isn't "all new". It's an evolutionary design based on Core tho some parts are borrowed from other Intel designs (the Memory Disambiguation tech was originally designed for the unreleased, unlamented Tejas, for example).
Other changes include a full 128-bit path to the SSE registers, meaning that all SSE instructions can now complete in a single cycle, L2 shared cache instead of separate L2's per CPU, an extra integer unit, etc.
And, of course, the 64bit extensions :)
Sure, there's enough in the way of changes/additions to render it worthy of being considered a new microarch, but those changes are evolutionary.
Ironically enough, there's a direct line from Core 2 going all the way back to P6, whereas NetBurst really was "all new"!

This link is for the Mac/iPod offer that was going on for the back to school season. On the last page under terms and conditions, it lists the iPods that qualify for the rebate and how much each are worth. Then in a second column there is a different price which goes into effect on 9/12/06. Has the rebate always been printed like this....If anyone has this form printed out prior today, check and see if it is like this one.

Anger management is a good thing.
Not that but realising his posts are massively off topic. This article is about the iMac and nothing to do with the operating system itself.

The true irony here is your blatant assumption that is based on nothing more than a "gut feeling".
ok... so will you answer my question then please?

It's something I observed as well. It's an entertaining phenomenon
Specs only matter if you have them.
My laptop has USB3, but until I get a USB3 flash drive I don't think it'll ever be used to its fullest. :(

If I could, I would get rid of my mbp+acd for an iMac. Don't know why. Maybe I'm just restless.

I will be tempted by new 27" imac once they hit, got some in our office a few weeks ago and they are lovely machines, and as much as I'd prefer a mac pro, they really beyond what I need from a machine (and the price).
I would like to know if the new thunderbolt port can still do the target display mode, as if I get one I'd be getting rid of my two old 22" displays and I'd want to have my windows rig running through the display for certain things.
I heard lame snide remarks like yours when USB first showed up. "Only Macs have it! Are you sure compatible devices will arrive within 22 years? What USB devices are you planning to buy? When will they be available?" You don't even have the name right. Meh.
It was similar with the introduction of firewire, it took a while for peripherals to make use of the connection, and whenever rumours of it being dropped come around some users (myself included) are up in arms.

That's really good. I was wondering when we'd get the results of the Movie Store.
It'd be interesting if there was a way in which we could see if DVD sales were down for those movies due to the Movie Store. Doubt there's a way, but I still have a feeling that these were impulse buys beause people just say them there, and it's not like they were planning on running out to Target or somewhere to get them.
Personally, I bought Good Will Hunting and Shakespeare In Love. Have yet to watch SIL, but I was very pleased with the clarity of GWH. Too bad my iBook 1.07GHz can't really keep up...and it ran out of juice in the last thirty seconds ;(
My computer is 3.5 feet from the end of my bed, so it'll be perfect to watch from there on my soon-to-be-delivered 17" iMac. My TV is 20" and is higher up but to the left of my bed. I live in an apartment with flatmates, so I have a lot of stuff in my room.

What I find most interesting is that fact the Creative is joining the Made for iPod program and will be producing its own iPod accessories.
Definitely interesting......now I'll just have to remember to never buy Creative products :) I like Apple not Creative........so why support a company I do not like that sued a company I do like and got $100 million in a lawsuit over a BS patent.

Dell currently quotes 9-22. Or did yesterday when I placed an order.
If nothing else, 9-24 is extremely close to 9-27 - the date on which Dell claims to be shipping their (Merom) Core 2's.

Published in USA today. An article titled "Are Lives Really an Acceptable Price for Fuel Efficiency?"
I believe the article you refer to is from the '90's. Regardless, blaming fuel efficiency is a typically American attitude. Why not blame the glut of giant SUVs on the road rather than the small cars? Are countless numbers of EU citizens dying because of their tiny tin-foil cars? Oh noes!
and SuperCachetes, I was under the impression that US jobs were going out of the country bc we can't afford Union price tags. But if you "think" making labor more expensive will spur hiring, then keep "thinking" that with your "brain" ;)
That "thinking" sounds pretty good; maybe you should try it. (Hint: what you can "afford" has nothing to do with unions.) ;)
Meanwhile, I'll be earning my degree from a top 25 university so that I can get a job that affords healthcare for my children
Yep. Sure hope that job isn't found cheaper elsewhere.

I'm hoping we don't see Apple adopting the HD Intel Graphics, cuz they are going to suck as far as gaming goes..

Yes. Time for a new change in the design. I am a small majority who really hate the current design due to high prices in repairs. Carbon fiber would be a good addition instead of the aluminium :apple:

Edit: Tested on Three iPods now. One bought days after the first 5G was realsed right up to one bought in july... all work with itunes purchase and home encoded content.
I have never been more happy to be proven wrong. But now: Steve has been lying to us about the capabilities of this great iPod 5G for nearly a year now, just so we wouldn't anticipate the iTunes Movie Store.
What a dear.

The simple fact is that I should not have to obey a 70mph speed limit if I don't want to. Why would I even bother driving a car that can hit 186mph (with the speed governor removed, with the governor top speed is 155mph) at 70 mph? A Ford Fiesta can hit those speeds, what's the point of fast cars if you're going to follow the speed limit in them?
Really?
Seriously...I mean really???
You have NO business driving a vehicle with your state of mind

Ultimately: who cares?
Bono still sucks, U2 has always sucked, and, much as i like a) the color of the new iPod and b) fighting AIDS, Apple's weird extended relationship with Bono makes very little sense to me.
P.S. Damn, Bono sucks.
By the way what kind of music do you like? New Kids On The Block?

And so the cries of disappointment begin...
Thats the best part of these forums is watching the buildup until it reaches some ungodly device that is not probable or even possible and then sheer disappointment when Apple announces a decent upgrade to a great product.
