So is TB actually included in the chipset or does it still need a separate controller? Sandy Bridge and Intel 6-series chipsets already support Thunderbolt "capability". In my ears this sounds like TB will not be included in the chipset which makes this piece of news more or less useless. USB 3.0 support has been known for months now.

I am pretty sure the current Intel boards require a separate Thunderbolt controller chip. Ivy Bridge seems to be pulling that chip into the ICH. Same for USB3.

It's not that it's popular, it's just that we never get around to doing the recent when it comes to mobile phones.

I'm not sure if we'll get video chat. I hardly see any phones that can do that with the exception of the Nokia N80, but still, you can't do that anywhere here anyways.

Most smartphones don't have Wifi in them. I don't think there's been a single Blackberry or Treo with one. There have been a few with Windows Mobile 5.0, but that's pretty much it.

I bought a XDA II PDA phone TWO or Three years ago already have WiFI.

I shall try and find the link again.. obviously, with a USB3 -> TB adapter the IO speed will be decreased down to USB3 levels.

Personally, I see little point of USB3 -> TB connectivity since they'll probably be far more USB3 hard disks etc available ( and cheaper ) than TB - and there's no benefit at the end of the day to link USB3 to a TB device.

So where exactly did you find these?

Thunderbolt = 10 Gbps (right now, will scale even larger in the future)
    USB 3.0 = 5 Gbps

There will never be a USB 3.0 to Thunderbolt adapter, there will be Thunderbolt to USB 3.0 adapter.

Don't worry, with Thunderbolt you essentially get an endless amount of options of ports. FireWire, USB 1-3, eSata, etc. It's only a matter of time until these adapters enter the market.

Please come to Korea. Samsung have been doing this illegally for years, often suing the small person to popperdom. No big corporation is good, but when you attach massive corps under the umbrella of a conglomerate, you combine all of that evil into one massive black hole.

At least Apple try to get to the bottom of suicides and deaths at their factories; at least they have only one core business to protect ruthlessly. Samsung (indeed, the biggest copycat I've seen) are huge pirates (selling fake DVD's/CD's in their grocery stores; rebadging Mercedes, Nissan, etc., cars for their own line; buying out large portions of most newspapers here). Apple's rise to the top has been fettered with bad, but not outright illegal bad to the extent Samsung's has.

Now we have bad planting a peck on evil.
I fly internationally for business, with three visits per year to a different division of Samsung.

Please do not get me wrong, I am not advocating for them.

I have a full understanding of the business culture of both Samsung and Apple. The point I'm making is Apple could choose to take the high road, no one is forcing their hand, nor will Apple suffer.

Apple's track record is too well established, just witness their overwhelming success.

There is simply no reason, contrary to what some may believe, for Apple to add yet another law suit to the long list they've originated.

Apple could have chosen to be a world class leader with a great positive aire of confidence, not fear and paranoia.

It's no secret that Samsung and others run a rough and tumble business in their region.

Finally, its my preference to choose the products that suit my needs no matter who builds them.

We live in a global economy without the luxury of choosing the country of manufacturer. While it could be argued "just don't buy from them". We all know that isn't going to hurt a huge company one bit.

UHM... iOS is far more open-source than windows is. Nice try... Android might be more open-source though, I'm not sure.

You are 100% right; OS X/iOS are much more opensource than windows. I wasn't talking about Windows though.

And android is FULLY opensource :)

The overclocking features are even more impressive.
The $316 E6600 with a 2.4ghz cpu clock speed was air overclocked to 4ghz stable. ON AIR. I shudder to think of what they could do with liquid cooling.

This brings me to think another thing - conceivably Apple could forego the whole "Quad Woodcrest" setup (which will undoubtedly cost a boatload) and they could simply take a Core 2 and (with Intel's help) overclock it with the current air flow setup of the G5 case, and probably double cpu clock speed at a cheaper price.

But they won't do it. :( a) retail systems (save for the overpriced Dell XPS lineup) aren't usually overclocked and b) it would screw up their whole price scheme. It does bring up another interesting point though...people could coincidentally *possibly* overclock their [Core 2] Macs (since the technology is there in the cpu itself)...for the first time ever? We could see iMacs potentially being overclocked to outperform a Mac Pro. (if someone figures out how to do it that is)

Dude you mac guy should really look into Xtremeforums if u want to see the full potential of Conroe , I saw Coolaler hit 5.2ghz on Phase when he broke the 1M Super Pi World Record by being the 1st to hit 9.2sec's , then He hit 4.0ghz on a Kentsfierld(yes people already have ES chips) CPU scoring over 2000 in 11sec Cinebench rendering.

Apple still doesn't have upload to a cloud or wireless syncing, and Windows Phone does. 25 GB free sky drive, as well as a beautiful hub where you choose what to access at a glance.

mobile me does this, and I suspect, it will become free soon (or at least parts of it).

You try making something perfect the first time around.

To be fair, direzz is just one person, not a major corporation who pride themselves on providing peerless products with few defects. That being said, with technology, there's always a certain percentage of failure rate with new systems. Eventually they work those out, but if you're an early adopter, then you run a higher risk of being in that percentile.

Additionally direzz, you said everytime you've bought a new apple product it's had defects. Yet you still buy from them. There's got to be a point where you should just say, "screw it. I'm not buying from X corporation anymore because I get bad products every time." Vote with your money. Go buy somewhere else. I would certainly go to another manufacturer if every product I bought from a particular company was defective.

Then again, you haven't really told us what you consider defective is. Sometimes programs crash, even on a mac. Sometimes little things happen that make you say, "darnit." Then you move on because it's not that big of a deal. Then there are some things, like a MB randomly shutting down, or batteries bursting into flames that make you say, "holy crap! This thing is messed up! And this is my third mac that this has happened to!" In other words, don't sweat the little stuff. :)

I know the planet is doomed and that we are all going to drown under super high sea levels BUT I just can't see the point in groups like Greenpeace.

I mean, they bang on about this and that, looking for big companies to target. It just stinks... Have you seen that raft (boat) they sail around in - it is hardly a pin-up for ecological travel.

Greenpeace you are a product of the 20th Century, turning to ever more desperate methods to get your message out. Take your tree hugging ideology and put it to good use somewhere else - fight Aids, cure cancer, help the disabled etc.

Apple and it's partners or competitors crack on! Do your thing, if you can become 'green', go for it. If not, we're all doomed anyway!

Rent-a-cops have guns? And shoot people IN THE HEAD? I'm amazed.

That said, this is pretty ******. Sure, the guy was a criminal lowlife, and he certainly deserved punishment, but I don't think he deserved to get killed. Oh well.

If you don't want to get killed, don't be a criminal and don't carry guns.

    You get what you give.

Just like all of the netbooks with optical drives make the MBA look bad?

Netbooks do not have optical drives. Ultraportables do.

The MBA looks good as a netbook. It looks bad as an ultraportable.

MBA and MBP are two different markets.

MBA is for people that want light. MBP is for people that want a full featured notebook.

So you want a big MBA.

If they could have the same processors, that would happen already at 13".

Two Choices: Good design Apple Style with decent Camera and Music Quality
    about $399
Or, Smart phone like with the feature above.(it means iLife , iChat for live video chat), they only need a good cpu,gpu and wifi for these.
    about $599

$599...I would expect at least 8GB, likely 16GB or a HDD (ala Nokia) to make that worth that price point for me ($1000 AUD roughly). Also video playback.

I carry a Glock 19 every day why should a Security Guard be any different?

Where should you shoot them? First thing you learn is shoot to kill, there is no such thing as aiming for a less lethal area... also hollow points are a must to prevent collateral damage.

I am not saying this is a good kill by any means; I was not there. However if it had to be done this is the way it should have been done.

    "So Live and Let Die!"

You shoot their leg, they shoot you in the head.
Anyone who points a gun at another person is asking for trouble, even if he/she doesn't fire it.

If guns didn't exist, things like this wouldn't be happening.

I'll need to go back and read the thread and this has p-robably already been posted, but I think that the "big" iPod update was really weak. The other two got some major improvments and fig facelifts. The regular iPod got a resolution upgrade and a bigger hard drive. Woo. Pardon me for not being too excited.

You're not alone, a number of people have expressed their opinion that this is a weak update, but no one really seems to offer what they expected. How is it weak? Is is weak because it's not a touch screen wide aspect ratio iPod? What else can they do to these things short of coming out with a completely new design?

Apple will have to offer something extremely impressive and cutting edge to replace the 5G iPods, and they are surely working on it, but these things take time. One of the things we appreciate about Apple is that they don't normally put out buggy crap (MacBooks notwithstanding). We can forgive them that since they were needed quickly. So, if you want the ooh aah factor you will have to be patient.

I know all of us 5G iPod owners appreciate our iPods are not outdated just yet. I for one welcome the changes, my 5 year old appreciates PacMan, and the syncing between two computers is freaking awesome!!!!

I really can't imagine Apple releasing a phone that scratches as easily as an iPod. And, as someone else pointed out, a click-wheel at the bottom would make the thing easy to drop...it would require two hands to use the wheel. I hope this rumor is coming closer to reality, but I can't imagine that rendition is anywhere near what the phone will look like.

I don't think that there's any data yet on failure rates and problems with the new Core 2 iMacs...

He is talking about reliability data from at least the last 10 years, Aiden...data you must have no clue about, of course...after all, Macs just started doing Windows, right?

I wondering how many people are now going to put off buying a Mac Pro and wait for a faster Kentsfield

The Mac Pros a fast as it is now, Kentsfield would smash the previous benchmarks but a fair margin.

Does anything use Thunderbolt yet? Will anything ever?
I've heard about stuff from Pegasus (storage), Promise (storage), Matrox (video), LaCie (storage).

Especially Thunderbolt-connected RAID storage quickly popped up.

And I have no trouble imagining why that would be interesting, haha.

No, I mean the lowest repair/return rate of the whole industry, and the highest praise in terms of support and reliability of the whole market...care to take a look around, perhaps?

We all know how public problems with Apple may get...1 PowerBook down is worth 1000 DOA Dells that never make it to the news...or perhaps you think the existence of iFixIt means all Macs are cracked...right? :rolleyes:Fixed!

I have to repair an iBook G3 this week.

    Absolutely unacceptable.
