They must be from California, lots of smugg Greenpeace hippies hanging around there.
Apple is from California too though! And were not all hippies over here, for the record.

Apple popularized the term "App" instead of "Application" (ugh!).
How come they don't have a trademark on the word "App"? (That would solve the problem.)

And so the cries of disappointment begin...
Thats the best part of these forums is watching the buildup until it reaches some ungodly device that is not probable or even possible and then sheer disappointment when Apple announces a decent upgrade to a great product.

Good luck with reporting my plates. I've done that to drunk drivers before, the 911 operator has told me "We're sorry sir, we cannot divert officers based on heresy." Also, see above: My uncle is the traffic court judge in the jurisdiction where I did this, good luck getting a ticket to stand.

There is no way apple with go with Merom for the imac. One huge factor you are all ignoring, is price. Merom cost alot more than conroe for the same speed. Apple will try to lower cost, and that means going with Conroe.

This is great for my alcoholic blackouts. Fire up the program and find out where I've been. Although on my last trip to San Diego it put me across the border and into a Tijuana cat house.

Pretty weak update to the "flagship" pod. I bought a nano last month (glad I did, hate the colours, and wouldn't feel happy about paying 100 more just to get it in black). I'll assume black nanos/vpods have been booming so they thought they'd slap a premium on it this time, bit harsh really.
The software update is, well, a software update. They could have rolled that out anytime over the last year but it always bodes well with a new 'product'. Also all the talk on battery life, I suspect that has nothing to do with a different or better battery but rather Apples default settings on brightness/volume. I find everytime I play my ipod on Apples default volume setting, I get more or less what's said on the tin. Shame it's too quiet for the London Transport System (tubes/trains) to listen to so I'm forced to turn it up and lose a few hours. I suspect the default brightness level will be lower than what it was initially which has resulted in the increase in life.
I do want an vPod, and around the 60/80GB mark (30 -> 80 jump is crazy?!), but not with that size screen. I'll wait till it's in wide, and then tune into Lost/24 on the commute so I can actually see what's going on. Plus I'm sure they should be getting slimmer these days... Steves year of HD really isn't working out like I thought...

These are products that are now competing directly with the products or the PC industry. I have been using macs since I was about 4, but now that Apple is using Intel Processors, all they really have going for them are their ability to run OS X and their design, which are huge for most of Apple's current market. The ability to run Windows though has helped recently to increase Apple's sales, but it means that apples are now directly competing with Dell, HP and the like.
There are two kinds of people who would consider a mac:
1. those who want to run OSX: they have no choice, just like before
2. those who want to run Windows: they had no reason to buy a mac before, but they can consider it now
So with the move to Intel, Apple has in fact increased its potential market. If they play it well, I'm guessing they'll sell a lot more computers in the near future than they did in the past.
Just my uneducated guess.

... the provocative and renowned philosopher Cartman...
This complicates the already thorny dilemma I'd been wrestling with in this thread. Whose words should win my confidence? Whose direction on this issue should I trust? "crap freakboy"? Maybe. Some of his comments make sense, but i'm thinking, if i met him on the street and he was introduced that way, would i stay and listen...or run? Then there's "jelloshotsrule"? He's shown some insight, but you know how you can evaluate comments differently after you've seen a guy throwing up after chugging too much at a frat party? And now there's a third choice, a cartoon character? It turns out, the nine-year-old in the red jacket resolved my dilemma:
"Cartman: Respect My Authority!"

Depends on the cipher really. Not all ciphers can be decrypted with even the latest of the latest hardware, especially if you lack the private key. And a court order can force you all you want to give up that private key, but they can't force you to remember it or not lose it. ;)
"I don't remember" or "I lost the private key to my encrypted backup, but here's the AES-256 encrypted file guys, have a go at it" are perfectly good answers.
As for this topic, SLA/ToS whatever. Not everything written in a TOS is legal or binding. If they wrote you had to murder your 1st born child, would you ? Would a court find it legally binding ? Of course not. Invasions of privacy aside, is there even a reason to store the location information like that, timestamped and polled every second ?
Why can't the device poll my location when asked for it only ? Why does it need to do it periodically ? Why is there no cleaning up after a certain time has elapsed ?
All serious questions. Even if I don't have anything to hide my privacy is still important to me. If I want you to know about my mundane life with no frills, I'll tell you about it.
Agree. I never understood the "Read the ToS" excuse because there's no way you are legally binded to everything that it says (your example was clear enough).
I have no problem with the logs the phone creates (I have already downloaded the PhoneTracker app and I can confirm that it does work) but I would like to know when, how and why its running. Just because someone has "nothing to hide" doesn't mean that they want to "show you everything".
Apple, since it clearly advocates a "user-driven" culture, needs to explain why this is happening.
if you are not doing anything wrong, what is there to worry about?
I kinda remember someone in the industry saying something like this...

Because I am going to. I'm a completely safe driver (even when doing 90 or above) until I run into some dunderhead who has to enforce the speed limit themselves. Had that woman just moved like everyone else did, I would have never had to cut her off in order to punish her. And yes I did have to punish her, because she needed to be taught her dang place on the road.
-Don
There's no such thing as being safe driving 25 above the limit. I'm not the type of person to slow people down, because that's not my business, but I am the type of person to laugh at someone who whizzes past me, then I pass 5 miles later getting written up. Just wait until your first ticket or accident, you'll reconsider your driving habits.

strange, I'm currently in Las Vegas according to this app, I've never been to LV in my life. It does however accurately give a tracking of my phone at home in the UK and my trip to East Coast of USA last year.
Actually this could be just as bad. Imagine a issue comes up and you need to prove that you were (or were not) somewhere and your phone conflicts with the facts. The government now has data that you need to clarify or explain.

Ok, I will complain. ;) I stopped using Pandora on my iPhone when AT&T began offering incentives to decrease 3G bandwidth usage (i.e. lower monthly bills).
Delivery of Pandora's stream also comes with the tradeoff of reduced fidelity and network interruptions, which I found barely acceptable for mobile application sans the bandwidth concerns above.
I also tired of the playlists that repeated with the free Pandora service and did not find it of enough value to myself personally to pay, especially if I was not guaranteed more variety of music.
That said, if you find Pandora useful, then good for you!
IMO, the new price structure for AT&T was not worth it to downgrade from the unlimited plan. wow, you save $5 to drop to only 2gb of data? or save $15/month and can only send a few emails a month?
we stream pandora around the house all the time and even wireless to airport expresses around the house...which u have to be connected to wifi to do that. only time use it is when going to/from work in the car so don't really use that much data on our phones with it.
if sound quality is an issue, i bet you are someone who also doesn't use appletv to watch movies bc it isn't of the highest quality?

What the hell are you talking about? I don't know what HD trailers you were downloading, but they look fantastic on my screen. Also, yes, some of them take forever if you're on a slower connection but it sounds as though everyone's banking on broadband these days; it has become the rule, not the exception.
I downloaded a couple trailers and watched them on two different displays, and they were not "Fantastic"... perhaps fantastic compared to watching the low res version in full screen mode. I am talking about blowing it up and filling the screen with the trailer. It skipped frames, picture froze once in a while.
Either way, what are you going to do with a HD version of the movie on your computer? Stream it onto your TV from the room next door? If it's that slow with a 2 minute teaser on an Apple Store connection, and my home Comcast connection (which is generally slow - hurry up USB EVDO CARD!!!), I don't see people wanting to buy it, other than the fact that it is a new Apple product.
I certainly didn't run rigorous tests, just tried watching the new Transformers trailer, clicked the HD version of it, blew it up to full screen, and watched the chunks of video stop everywhere.
If you want to see TRUE HD, get comcast or any other Digital cable provider and watch the HD feed of NBC for a minute. THAT is what HD should look like. If it doesn't look clear, what's the point?
with that said, here is a picture of the new video HD video iPOD. This girl is carrying the ipod unit in her left hand and holding onto the 2 TB Hard Drive on her shoulder.
The bag comes in 3 different colors, which is nice, blue, pink, and titanium.

since the iMac uses a laptop chip this should be no surprise (its practically a laptop)
however merom (the mobile version of conroe or core 2 whatever) will drop in, so many people say ;)It's a mess to open up the iMac and take the heatsink/CPU assembly off. Even I think it's scary.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a phone that was able to switch to VOIP in areas with free 802.11 service if you choose to? It could be a part of .Mac Moblie that was discussed earlier. At home it would be on your existing wireless network and could sync with iTunes and all the other Apple Apps and serve as a remote. Away from a 802.11 network it could pick up the cell carrier towers. Would something like this be worth developing?
