I hope it isn't O2, that would be a shame. To be honest, any network lockins would be bad.
My vote would be Orange if I had the choice.

Considering that, when the iPhone was first announced, Jobs stated he would be happy with a 1% share of the market, Apple isn't doing too badly. If MS gets their act together with the Windows phone, I can see it getting a larger share. I guess how big a share depends on how Apple and Google respond with their own innovations.

Make sure your homeowner's polices are up to date. I predict this new MBA will burst into flames when Turbo Boost kicks in.

The TDPs are around the same as with previous gen, or possibly even less (the TDP of 320M is unknown). Also, Turbo Boost will only be activated if the thermals allow that. If your CPU is already running at 90C, then Turbo most likely won't kick in.

I doubt SB will make MBA run noticeably hotter.

I was thinking of buying an iPod Shuffle for my niece for Xmas but she'll be getting something else instead. My MacBook purchase is on hold as well.

Well, always nice to see someone taking a stand! I'm sure your niece will be proud of you too, once she can understand why you did what you did.

Malware includes computer viruses, worms, trojan horses, spyware and other malicious and unwanted software or programs. The idea that OSX and/or Unix/Linux based operating systems is free from such threats is absurd.

No one has presented the idea that Mac OS X is free from all malware threats. Since your reading comprehension might need some help, I'll repeat my statement again:
there is no Mac malware in the wild that can't be avoided with some common sense and prudent action on the part of the user.
Viruses for Mac OS X don't exist, so antivirus isn't needed to protect against them.
Trojans for Mac OS X do exist, but can be avoided by the user being careful what they install, so antivirus isn't needed to protect against them.

Meanwhile, the answer on here to avoiding potential pitfalls in things like Flash is to (surprise), not install or use it. Hey guys, don't power on your computers and you will always be safe!
I use Flash all the time and have never had any issues with it.

Even Apple themselves regularly release security updates. WTF is the point of a security update if there's no possible threat to OSX?
Again, no one has said there are not threats to Mac OS X; only that those threats don't require any AV software to defend against them.
Just because a threat is less likely than on other systems does not mean that it does not exist. Yet people on here won't even admit that much.
Either you're not reading or not comprehending the posts that have been made. No one is saying that NO threats exist; only that those threats can be avoided by the user without the need for AV software.

Only a fanboy would take a post that suggests that a false sense of security can lead to dangerous behavior that might be a liability in the future (good advice in almost any market/situation) and twist it into "Boy you're ignorant; we are INVULNERABLE! OSX cannot be hacked or attacked! It's impossible!
Who are you referring to? I haven't seen anyone say such things in this thread or any other.
    "fanboy"
Again, who are you referring to? I'm not a fanboy, or a boy of any kind. I have no allegiance or loyalty to any brand or manufacturer (except Harley-Davidson, but for very different reasons). It's amusing to see how people try to bash Apple or Macs for the wrong reasons, then resort to calling people "fanboys" when their arguments aren't accepted. Apple and Macs have plenty of weaknesses. Attack one of the legitimate ones and you'll have sensible people agree with you. Make a case against Apple or John Deere or Mattel or Coca-Cola or any other company that isn't based in fact, and you'll get resistance. That doesn't make those who oppose such a case "fanboys".

Am Encoding H.264 Baseline Profile 640x480 To Test Old 5G Compatability. Takes much longer. Will report success or failure when it's done in another 35 minutes - about 3:15pm Pacific.

iPod 1.2 update software made no mention of this newer H.264 maximum dimension feature. If it works it means a whole new paradigm for Video iPods. The 320x240 pixel restriction for H.264 to date made it a highly unattractive codec to use. Now it's a whole new ballgame if it works. HDTV May be encoded 640x360 max in H.264 for a much better encode. Crossing my fingers this will work. Please pray with me now. ;)

saw a post on ilounge earlier.... that said this guy went to his local apple store, and they said to wait until next week (the 5th) because imacs and mac minis would have core 2 duos.

if this is true, then this event on 9/12 will most definetely be strictly ipod/itunes related. :)

That's why I've kept my late '08 MBP for as long as I have. I want a MAJOR step forward the next time I invest $2000+ on a primary machine. :)

In the meantime, I'll be just fine with what I have! ;)

Of course, they've never really cared if people get offended, even their own voice actors (Issac Hayes).

Hayes has issues... He stuck with the show and helped Matt and Trey and the folks at Commedy Central poke fun at every race and religion... And then came the Scientologists turn to get made fun of. Hayes, being a Scientologist, didn't agree with that (even though it's OK with him to defile every other religion), so he announced he was leaving the show.

Oh, and the Mr. & Mrs. Tennorman chili was classic. Cartman rules. ;)

Erm... that is wrong. All major Hollywood DVDs are encoded as progressive full frames at 23.976fps. The interlacing you are seeing is the result of adding pulldown frames to pad it out to 29.97 interlaced for NTSC. And since they are encoded anamorphically, it uses the full 720x480 and depending on your output display, either gets letterboxed or stretched wide on a real 16:9 HDTV.

Are iTS movies letterboxed? If so, then the quality of iTS movies is closer to 640x360.
Yea, I see. I wouldn't be surprised if they were letterboxed... I would rather wait till a tv show comes out "widescreen" and see for myself for 1.99 then 9.99 and be dissapointed...

Hopefully, over time, the quality will get better. It seems to me, apple is matching video quality of the downloads exactly to what the iPod can handle... so maybe it all depends on the iPod getting a better screen and processor...

The Nexus S looks different to the Galaxy S in software and physical looks but is included in the suit. As that is a Google experience device I do wonder why Apple don't target Google directly.

Google probably have a kickass patent portfolio so they'll just countersue.

Apple's market share is growing but the fact that they supposedly (according to other posts) sell 90% of the computers that cost more than $1000 indicates that they are never going to really own the market. If they want to achieve true market dominance they need to lower their prices to attract the "I ain't paying over $800 for a fricking computer" crowd (the vast majority of people). Until they make their products affordable to the majority, they will never have a majority of the market share. Windows will always be around unless they make their products so that everyone can buy one.

They can still make record profits though.

However, if you exclude revenue that did not come from computers (ipods, itunes, etc.) and only look at products that are directly comparable (both companies sell a similar product) Microsoft has decidedly more revenue. For example there are two stores: Store 1 (pharmacy and other things including non perishable food) and Store 2 (food only). Only a small portion of store 1 's revenue comes from food. Store 1 is bigger than store 2 but it would be wrong to assume that store 1 is a bigger player in the food market as only a small portion of its revenue comes from food. It actually has less market penetration than store 2.

I agree as it is the only common sense system, but the argument is negated by the patent. That was for a portable music device with Hierarchal menu display/navigation system, (HFS is a file system Apple has used and not used in Creative's players).

The courts could have said prior art, case dismissed or patent stands, Apple owes Creative $10 for every iPod sold since day 1. Apple didn't want to take any risks and settled. Good all round as far as I can see, even if I do agree it is a stupid patent award.

Oh, I agree that Apple did the sensible thing. But it just makes me angry that they should be in the situation in the first place.

It's something I observed as well. It's an entertaining phenomenon

Specs only matter if you have them.

My laptop has USB3, but until I get a USB3 flash drive I don't think it'll ever be used to its fullest. :(

    - Digital filing equipment and software
These are the products that Apple is exhibiting at the show, according to the photokina-site. Just to point out to the people that somehow has forgotten that Apple makes hardware very well suited for photography that a Macbook Pro is not out-of-place here! :p

I live in Nevada and honestly the cops spend more time Giving tickets out then doing real police work. Since the state has been financial hardship, The cops are out drumming up business. Honestly, do you think someone who is Drunk is going to be checking the app for the checkpoints? Its just an excuse to get rid of these apps from the store and increase revenue. Apple dont bend to the pressure, These apps do not break any rules for the App store and if you start letting the Government decide what should and shouldnt be, is the day I finally Jailbreak my Iphone.

I never ONCE claimed you dont have GSM carriers.
the US dont use GSM, do they, it's CDMA, right?
    ________________________________________

I claimed (and maintain) that CDMA is crap for consumer choice. and what you pay for calls is irrelevant. they dont charge you more/less because of it being CDMA/GSM/analogue/a tin on a string.

Then why do you hate CDMA so much? There are ways of unlocking CDMA phones and using them on other networks.

And the reason why I talked about international roaming rates was because you said in a nutshell that we couldn't bring our phone to another country.

In the Windows world, it would be a Program Store. Look at any Windows computer and there's nothing called an application or an app. MS claims to have, like 95% of the desktop market. How would the gazillion Windows users out there even know what an "app" was? They've had zero exposure to it, it's a totally foreign term. Wait a minute, it's an Apple term that is coming into common usage and now MS might have to change their language to get rid of the goofy term "program", conceding defeat, so its usage must be stopped or curtailed. That's what this is really about.

    Please see screenshots above.
