Hmm... Cinema displays also got a bump.

Oww.I saw the rpice drop but not the spec boost. I thought Apple was trying to clear older stock but now I think this is the new monitor and we caren't going to see one with an iSight built in. New iSight maybe...

Apple can't not update at least the top-end MacBooks. Dell & Co. will be putting Core 2 in comparably priced machines - $1299/1499 - as the price breaks down similarly to Core Duo chips.
Apple doesn't want switchers going "hmmm, I can get a MacBook for <x> or a Dell with a better newer processor for the same."

After being reassured by a number of posts here, I downloaded the Sophos software and immediately did a scan of my HD. I was expecting it to find something "serious" that I would have to let Sophos deal with. It did not. Nothing was found; although the scan took about 45 minutes. At one point (near the end), the scan seemed to stop (hang up?) but it restarted OK. Perhaps it was just dealing with a particularly large file.
I, too, am not so concerned about viral problems with my MBP but I do receive and resend files from numerous PCs so I suppose have Sophos software "on the job" might make me more responsible.
I am curious; I seldom find anything is free. How does Sophos recover his investment in this project?

This article definitely made me laugh. In a way good for Apple but on the other hand less competition is not good for us consumers.

haha you'll be FINE trust me. you bought a very high end laptop and it will happily run leopard. when apple introduces leopard it will want to get as many people as possible to use it, alienating owners of a macbook pro they bought a little over a year ago is not a path they will take.
You'll be able to run leopard just fine but you won't be able to take advantage of the 64 bit enhancements to leopard or use full 64 bit software.

I'm the one that raised the point in the first place! I think I set the context!
Exactly. You did set the context but you did fall out your words when you said that MAS download would be a better thing to exploit which in any case, not true.
Just like 'small white car' corrected you, there's nothing worse than an unrestricted Mac OS Install Disk. Simple.
I do. I don't have any need to violate it. I only have one Mac.
All of my computers have a fully licenced copy of Windows XP or 7 on them.
It's great. Good that you don't. Just saying that EULA doesn't hold a candle in practicality and can be easily exploited. I can illegally install the OS on a laptop in front of Apple and they cannot do anything. Not that they care, but even if they did, they couldn't.

The iPhone 4 is already dated relative to other phones on the market. To have a phone on the market for 18 months without an update is insane.

Wasn't it exactly the same story with the iPod?
Exactly.
How are Rio, Creative, and all the other "iPod Killer" product manufacturers like Sony doing nowadays in the digital music player market? :p
Rio's out of business and Creative is now part of the "Made For iPod" accessory community? Walkman? what the H*LL is that?!
Take notes Palm. History repeats itself.

There are several ways to lose a patent. One way is not to defend it. Another ways is trying to defend bogus patents and have the court invalidate it.
That's true, but in this case the similarities are so close I'd hardly call it bogus.

Sorry guys, I had to go into the city for a conference.
By the way, mscriv's explanation of the turns/points system is spot-on.

"Should we bring the body?" cried Jorah standing next to Wilmer's lifeless body.
"We can't afford the burden. This is a dangerous place, a body will only slow us down and even endanger us," said Rosius as he strode towards the unopened door. "Shall we continue?"
"Jorah, come on. Let's go," said Loras as the remaining members of the group followed Rosius through the door. Throwing a final glance at Wilmer's body, Jorah followed.
YOU WENT THROUGH THE DOOR.

Seems strange that they're not rolling this out to iDevices. I can't see them having to hand over 30% of the revenue to Apple - this looks like more of a Dropbox competitor.
Possibly Apple's launch of a competitor is imminent, and Amazon just doesn't think that they can compete on Apple's home turf?
I hope this is true. Could be quite useful.

I wonder if it somehow partitions the hard drive to make a small partition with a bootable installer on, and then installs Lion onto the larger, primary partition?
Well, it does make the Recovery partition, where you can access disk utility. You can use that to do a clean install? I'd like to know more about how it works.
What was hard about previous installations ? Pop CD in, run upgrade. Same process.
Speed. (Of course, you do have to download it first.) ;) But you don't have to wait for the disk to arrive.

Where do these survey companies get there data from? I have NEVER been asked any questions about stuff like this. Plus with statistics you can fudge the numbers to represent just about anything.

TechCrunch likely doesn't know jack about dates or new features in iOS 5. Just saying.
They have a terrible track record. I think the fact that they're still going with the iPad 3 release this fall completely invalidates anything they're saying.

No you didn't. People are always confusing this. Also most people believe iOS only comprises the iPhone.
