The current design is still beautiful and didn't get old over time - still one of the best designs for Laptops ever ... but hey, they might come up with something even more 'magical'.

Apple wants to extend the seasonal iPod buzz as long as possible. We know they will update both the iPod nano and full-size iPod, the question is when. I think it's safe to say nano first. Here's why.

    iPod video, then nano
Everyone goes WOW at the iPod video, and the nano is a yawn in comparison. The buzz will explode but then fizzle out faster.

    Both at the same time
Will create a huge buzz, but will then die out.

    iPod nano, then video
The iPod nano will be considered pretty cool, and generate reasonable buzz. When it's fizzling out, the iPod video bomb will be dropped, keeping iPod buzz going all through the xmas season. Apple did this last year and boy did it work.

[...]this one you can actually buy - ColorWare do custom colourisation of iPods, computers, accessories, all sorts of things.

Except that ColorWare paints the products (AFAIK). A red iPod nano from Apple would be red anodized, not red painted.

I started doing like this guy (http://www.speedtrapahead.org) a while back when a revenue officer started hiding in a church parking lot near my house. As soon as the "Speed Trap Ahead" sign went up in my yard, what-d-ya-know!...no more sirens! If the people will make this their responsibility, it will no longer be as profitable for them.

I just posted earlier today about how I was waiting for the Apple iPhone to upgrade my RAZR... but honestly thats it?

I feel like the only one who looks at that design and says "blah". Its a horrible design for a phone. Its a nano with a bigger screen. Thats it. There are 1000 phones out there now that look just like this.

I can't believe this is what we've been waiting for years and god knows how much in R&D for?

I'm a much bigger fan of the iChat Mobile. (I know its fake but its a much better idea than this. Granted it needs some work too...)

I wish they would use AMD processors as a way to get around this problem with intel and ati. We would benefit from AMD's gpu's and a better price for the end user. Flame away.

Sorry officer for driving on the wrong side of the road... And, no, I am not drunk... I was checking for Speed Traps on my iPhone while driving...
I think texting and emailing while driving are as bad as driving drunk.
DUI, DWI, DWT (Driving While Texting) and the list goes on...

Interesting. Microsoft calls these files "Programs" and always has. Nothing called an application exists in Windows, it only has programs. Seems maybe MS is a little late to this game, and they're gonna piss all over it for everyone else.

Applications are a type of program. They have been called so since the dawn of time.

I agree with you (and I realize I'm preaching to the choir here) but I would argue that in some ways, a 24" AIO is even worse than a 17"/20" AIO, due to the sizable (no pun intended) investment in the display. If your 17" iMac bites the big one, but the display is still fine, well, okay, you have to throw away a perfectly good 17" display. But they're fairly cheap these days, so whatever. However, what if something goes a year or so from now on your 24" iMac? For me at least, throwing away a perfectly good, high quality 24" display would really suck.

And that's one of the reasons I don't like all in ones, I dont like throwing away display no matter what the size. My last CRT lasted me about 6 years and I had an old apple 14" monitor that was still working after 10 years! Now that's getting value out of your components! :D

However, in regards to the longevity of a 24" apple might say hey buy apple care and be covered for those 3 years and "protect your investment". But maybe this is another issue that apple should address and that's their extended warranties. Perhaps you or others might feel more confident in a AIO solution if apple offered 4-5 year extended warranties?

Who knows they may surprise us yet with a headless imac/pro. But I think they have it set up like buying a car. You want those extra features? Then you have to pay for a higher priced model that has the features you want and dont want...;)

To quote the provocative and renowned philosopher Eric Cartman,

No, I hate hippies! All they do is talk about the environment and then they drive cars that get bad gas milage!

    :p

I lost all respect for that character when he fed Scott Tenorman's parents to him in chili.

You make it sound like companies have an obligation of going public. And what you may say MIGHT be true, you are also forgetting that most of the crummy companies in existence are public. Enron was public, Microsoft is public, Exxon is public, Chiquita is public. The list goes on. And you are forgetting that while in theory investors might force changes in the company, usually they don't. Only time they force changes are when the company is not delivering "enough" ROI for the investors. Investors are the primary reason why we have "quarter-capitalism", where long-term benefits are sacrificed for short-term profits.

Personally I believe all companies not only have an obligation to go public, but have an obligation to surrender the entire control held by the board of directors to the state which is controled absolutely by the public, thereby allowing for the involvement of interests other than those financial and allowing actual democracy to pervade rather than increasingly fascist corporatocracy.

Not that I think Apple is particularly one of the companies creating that trend, it's fairly good in that regard, and I hope to see them make a real effort to improve conditions in the iPod City.

Microsoft on the other hand, regardless of how piss poor their software is, is notoriously ruthless towards workers, other businesses, even public serivces, and definately contributes to the overall erosion of both democracy and any kind of "Wealth of Nations" free market capitalism that remains the only partially benevolent flavour of said economic system.

It's very true, investors rarely act upon non-financial interests, but occasionally. Still, this is what happens when the only method of interaction with a coroporation is through the buying and selling of stocks and products.

Such is the success of neo-liberalism; it's impossible to express social human concerns with the language of GDP and quarter profits imposed by the unanimous corporate landscape of the modern world.

Personally I'd rather pay a lot more for my Macs, have them updated a lot less often and even suffer decreases in the rate of performance improvements, if it meant that the people who manufactured the computers were paid enough to sustain themselves and their families in comfortable, suitable housing with enough money left over for an enjoyable life.

    Morality over Mhz!

If you're like me, you don't have your Mac right next to your TV. Not only would I have to string a DVI/HDMI cable aaaall the way across the room, I would also have to get an equally long digital audio cable. Probably end up costing about the same as a video AirPort Express (if they keep the prices the same) but with the added hassle of getting those cables across the room.

This would be a lot less expensive than buying a Mac mini, especially if you already have a powerful desktop just waiting to play some HD videos...

Exactly! I think other potential twists would include a video Airport Express with a built-in TV tuner (to stream tv content back to your iMac/Mac Pro for recording, or an optional built-in HD for local storage when you don't have your Mac on or something.

Are you trying to tell us that you promote ripping off icons from other people? Is it only ok if they are stealing from other companies? What if someone has a custom icon set installed? Did they creator of that icon set consent to this iPhone/iPod Touch app having access to those icons?

Have you even read a single thing I've said? You are defaming me - I'm an intellectual property attorney and don't advocate stealing anyone's intellectual property. So let me repeat what I've said multiple times, this time using small words:

    1) Apple has every RIGHT (taking into account waiver, exhaustion/first sale doctrine, and fair use) to use its copyright to limit the license to the icons

    2) Apple has every RIGHT to decide what goes into the app store

    3) Apple is being stupid in exercising these rights in this case.

This from Intel's Technology Brief on Thunderbolt Technology:

Users can add high-performance features to
their PC over a cable, daisy chaining one after another, up to a total
of 7 devices, 1 or 2 of which can be high-resolution DisplayPort
v1.1a displays (depending on the controller configuration in the host
    PC).

So does this mean 3 external monitors once we can daisy chain? (I'm assuming one is the internal display.)

...Eh, shoot back? But not in the head... A head shot, geez... That wasn't meant to stop him, that was meant to kill him...

Have you ever fired a gun under pressure? How do you know that he was aiming at the head. When your life is on the line and a weapon is in your hand, your accuracy may not be perfect. My opinion is the security guard did the public a service by eliminating this scum.

I want an iTunes Movie Store, but to me it would be a lot better if you had the choice between a $9.99 download and a $2 or $3 rental that expired after a couple days. I honestly don't buy very many movies at all, because I rarely watch a movie twice. I do like to rent them though, and anything that made that more convenient would be great.

I couldn't agree more. Steve was right when he said people don't want to rent their music, they want to own it. The opposite is true about movies. Besides who has that kind of HDD space? I almost never buy movies but we do use Netflix. How about a model just like that. A monthly fee based on how many active movies you can have a one time. You can watch them as long as you like but when you download another you have to give one up.
