I've just finish chatting with a person on the apple website. She told me that I can use the new imac (21 and 27") thunderbold input to use the imac as an external display. Only if it comes from a thunderbolt output (like an macbook pro for exemple).

This is precisely why other companies' attempts to "bring the PC into the living room" have failed (and will continue to do so). Think of the logistics of this (if you will) from an interior design perspective. Are you going to put your media center PC on a TV stand in your living room across from the couch to watch movies/TV? Are you also going to have a desk chair sitting right in front of it for those times you'd like more PC than TV? People (families) do not use computers in their living room and they do not watch movies/TV sitting at a desk.
This is why iTV is brilliant. Living rooms are for content, not computing. Content is the only aspect of your computer that is necessary in the living room, and it is all iTV delivers.
thoughts?
For the average user, I completely agree. Even if you have something like a Mac mini, something that can still look nice next to your home theatre components, you still need an HDTV to be able to use it as a computer. Before Apple jacked the price up $100 on the mini when they switched to Intel, I was going to buy one strictly for the use of Front Row. That would be a rather expensive media streaming box. ;) The iTV is perfect for me, and I think it will be for a lot of other folks as well.

Who has room for two external displays on a desk that already has a 27" iMac?!
I do. Probably have room for 3.:D

Fail. It says I can withdraw by turning off location services. It still collects even though location services are turned off. Try again Applogist.
All I've seen is one paragraph claiming that. Until someone shows data from when location services was turned off it's hard to run with it.
Applogist? Jesus, that's such a sad bastardization of words. I'm trying to apply reasoning to this and have people understand that they've likely agreed to something because they don't read the ToS or SLA.

What about the Mac Pro? It's way past due, would that come first, before the iMac?
Probably not until August at the earliest.

Apple being a California based company certainly must know about the new law just signed that prohibits hand held cell phone use while driving a car. (Reasonable law if you ask me) with this new law we can assume the phone will have some kind of "hands free" interface. It would be very hard to sell a high end phone that can't be used in a car in California. Apple must know this, the law has been in the works for some time.
As a Los Angeles resident, this makes me very happy. I've been following it, and I'm happy Arnold gave it his go-ahead.
I'm sure Apple will also be selling loads of peripherals including hands free headsets. I have a bluetooth headset and I love it. Anyone who use's cell phones these days and doesn't use a cell phone is an idiot, IMO.
Want to hear me really rant about this subject, go here...
EDIT: I took the URL out becuase the link had a naughty word in it (and I don't want to get in trouble :) ). If you're interested in seeing my rant, feel free to PM me.

Could someone please clarify, are we expecting the MacBook Pro to be updated at WWDC? I'm ready to purchase a MacBook Pro right away, but if we are fairly certain that there will be a new release in August I will wait as my current laptop is doing the job.
Does anyone want to give some odds? I know that no-one can be certain but for instance for a 25% chance I'll wait, for a 5% chance I'll just order one now.I wouldn't give you good odds for WWDC, but you should have your update within less than a month from it.
Merom isn't out at the time of WWDC- it won't be until later in August. It is possible they may let apple take pre-orders if steve wants to really make it a massive attack at WWDC on all parts of the line charging ahead into the next generation, but you never know with him.I'm expecting a reprise of September 2003 when Steve Jobs personally introduced the Aluminum 15" PowerBook G4 at the Paris Apple Expo. This year it starts on Tuesday September 12 which would be perfect timing for the release and "shipping today" Debut Of Merom Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros.

I am with you on this. I don't see the real compelling reason to have a plain old iPod that makes phone calls and sucks all my battery so I can't play music, or vice versa. It needs to be a compelling smart phone, that will be the inovative part, not the hardware design. We all know it will look like a nano.
But why should it? This isn't Motorola... this is Apple. They are supposed to be the masters of industrial design and software integration. No doubt the phone will have an awesome user interface, but I expect more from Apple than sticking an antenna and GSM chip inside a nano, putting a keypad underneath it, and calling it a day. This couldn't have taken very long to dream up... it seems like the most obvious and un-Apple idea of them all.
If this is the fabled iPhone then Apple is losing its touch... the design was already done when they introduced the nano.
I hope Apple wants this to be a phone with iPod functionality opposed to a nano with phone functionallity. The difference is huge. What is the primary function of this device? To play music or use as a phone? Thus far it looks like a nano with a software update and a GSM chip sadly.

I assume the screen would be a touch screen. I would hate to start dialing numbers using the click wheel.
I hope it isnt a touch screen. I miss my old rotary phone. It did suck if you messed up a 1-800 number though...:p

No. it's still using more than one core. More likely because of the speed limitation of the hard drive writing the mp4 file.I know this sounds silly but how do you monitor processor usage from a process via Activity Monitor? (I have the %CPU column up but is there a way to get more detailed information?) I have the Developer Tools installed too. I'm not a developer but well...my work requires me to have them installed anyways.

Also announced is that Creative is joining Apple's "Made for iPod" program, and will be introducing an array of iPod accessories later this year.
Thats hilarious!!:) For $100 mil I would too!

I'm glad both companies make a record profit ...
I don't think the two companies can really be compared directly to each other. There is lots of overlap and one would have to have a closer look at the overlap area only. Both of areas where they make more than the other.

last three macbook pro updates were:
june of 2009
april of 2010
february of 2011
so... next is december of 2012... or if it takes even longer it would be jan-feb 2012
though i don't think that it will take longer than 10 months
because before the last three updates they were updated even more often than 10 months.
getting the back to school deal with a free ipod touch is really tempting... but.... so is a redesign

No need to be rude. I was just asking a question!

Looks pretty sweet. When I return to the UK I will probably pick up one of these. Mac Pro, though nice, is just overkill.
Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.
What is it you have an aversion to?
Fewer.

I'm not saying it WON'T incorporate any liquid metal, but I'm pretty damn certain the chassis won't be built out of it, it uses very expensive precious metals to manufacture liquid metal and making a LM Unibody just doesn't make sense.
I think we are likely to see another aluminum unibody, but without optical drive and HOPEFULLY with both an Air style blade SSD and a slot for a standard 2.5" hard drive. Add thunderbolt (and hopefully a third party TB to firewire hub of some sort), remove FireWire, remove optical, call it a day. That would be a very, very solid update.

If only manufacturing hardware could be as quick as pressing disc I think the 5.99 would be even higher =)

Gee, I love that a thread about a photography event has been hijacked by wishes for a new MacBook Pro. As far as I am concerned the release of these laptops can't come soon enough. For the last month the money has been in the bank for the biggest, bad-ass MacBook Pro that Apple will release so I'm just waiting and hoping now. Following the announcements on Tuesday I may throw in an iPod (3-years+ of Mac and I've only held one once...) unless my wife catches me first.
Bring it on.
Bring it on.

Now mind you, I say this as an investor, not as an enthusiast.
Is it just me, or is going public the WORST thing a company could do? When they do that, they get these crybabies who whine "I'm an INVESTOR and I DEMAND immediate results! I insist on my short-term ROI that you deliver! Don't you realize that I have invested xxxxx dollars in your company, therefore you owe me big time!".
Well boo-frigging-hoo!

Does anything use Thunderbolt yet? Will anything ever?
I've heard about stuff from Pegasus (storage), Promise (storage), Matrox (video), LaCie (storage).
Especially Thunderbolt-connected RAID storage quickly popped up.
And I have no trouble imagining why that would be interesting, haha.

The Mac Pro is NOT overdue! No update until spring 2012 when SB server chips are readily available.
