There is a big difference between paying more for service that costs the carriers more and paying for a service/feature that doesn't cost the carriers anything.
America is HUGE compared to Hong Kong to Europe so it costs the carriers far more to get coverage.
Perhaps you might want to compare ..say San Fran or Newyork city to Hong Kong. City to City comparison seems reasonable, right? America is huge, However I don't see a reason why they can't invest enough money to get San Fran with better connection speed at a lower cost given the population is dense enough to cover the cost. Japan is big enough? Their land line speed and 3G network is pretty damn fast and cheap.
My whole point is...getting 50 states all cover with uber 3G speed at low cost is tough, but getting a city such as San Fran or Newyork city should't be hard. They are not doing it because it's just no incentive to do so. Competition is the key.

I don't think that the merits or demerits of the mac app store are the core point here. The store may be good, excellent, bad, poor, draconian, onerous or whatever but Apple is going to award programming and application awards to only those apps that are distributed through their application store.
Even if you think the store is great, hell even if the store IS GREAT, don't you also feel that it isn't the ONLY way to get quality, well made applications.
Apple is only promoting application which it profits from AND which conform to its Terms of Service.

It may kill the first iteration of the Zune, but MS has stated it�s a multiple years effort � they acknowledge it�s going to be hard to beat the iPod bastion, and if at all possible it will take time. But, I suspect Apple have plenty of different prototypes in their labs, ready to be launched to complement new market demands.
And of course, multiple years effort is eufemism for pumping billions of dollars into the Zune withouth making profit until the market is flooded, and then abusing the monopoly.

Really VictoriaStudent, lol I agree with BForstal on what people would do in the same situation 100 percent, and I'm not trying to brag about anything, and I cant even believe this thread has reached 3 pages. Sec I have no reason to troll!!! I have been a member of this forum since and even though I have never really posted anything I have found wealth of knowledge over the years from people in these forums. Wow and you cannot judge a person's character by a mistake a cashier made in a store!!! iBeard, you're assuming that the only thing a larger screen is good for is movies/tv. With a 4" screen on the pod, you have a larger viewing area for more than movies/tv. You have it for games, pictures, chat(when available), text, better view of album artwork, and so on. It may not be for you because you may only use your pod for music, but you gotta admit there's a huge market for it.

It's not just that though, a 4 inch screen that you can move around easily (without scratching the spinning DVD) would be awesome for watching movies. I would even go so far as to say that it could be a larger viewing area than your bigscreen plasma.

Overall, disappointing.
From the MacRumors live update (thanks guys), there was waaaaaay too much dull stuff about movies /snore
Would have liked to hear about a Leopard update; increase in capacity of iPhone and Touch; perhaps news of 3G support; hear more about the SDK; see some more cool iPhone app demos.
I like the Time Capsule though, as I'm looking for a back-up drive since Time Machine came along. I'll be picking one of those up.

2. lower price -> hd-dvd
3. porn industry choses the cheapest format -> hd-dvd
the big thing will be the players. blu-ray players had a bad start (frames were dropped, image quality wasn't that good, delays).
it looks like blu-ray will have a hard fight.
HD DVD is barely any cheaper then Blu-Ray right now.
I mean few bucks isn't going to change my mind.
Also the porn industry more then likely went with VHS because of it's 3 hrs capacity then it just being cheaper of the two. Think how much porn could be crammed onto a blu-ray disc!?

I don't FEEL ignorant and stupid. Maybe that's because I took the time to READ and UNDERSTAND the limitations imposed on me by iTunes/iPod before I BOUGHT in. And maybe because I understand that what I am BUYING is a DIGITAL DATA FILE that must be interpreted by a certain APPLICATION to become music, and that this was EXPLAINED to me before I BOUGHT. That I don't OWN the MUSIC, and that there are LIMITATIONS to what I can do with it. ( And if you think I'm wrong on that last point, let a copyright holder catch you using their music for commmercial gain. Write back to us and describe the world of hurt that descends on you)!

I think that if/when they announce the 'true video iPod', whatever it will be...will be done at MWSF.
Zune is already announced, it's old news...if someone is going to buy it, good for them...the content management is enough for me not to even think about getting one (let alone Microsoft being the largest reason).
MWSF gives them enough time not to get caught up in the rest of this hoiday season's consumer electronics...PS3/Wii (more non-MS products :D )...and get a fresh audience at the start of their fiscal Q2.

Well if they do launch it so soon, it probably won't replace the current iPods, but be a new highend model.
