Hi there,
if he's into dance stuff then Reason is a fairly good bet. The company is Propellorheads. Software is called "Reason".
Generally speaking, though, if you want top quality production software, get Logic by Emagic (now owned by apple)

I've long been stuck on analog NTSC crap, and I'm considering buying a Sony HDR-FX1, which is a high-definition video camera. However, when I try to play back the 1080i movie trailers from Apple's site, it's slightly choppy. If my PowerBook has a hard time handling HD playback, will I be able to capture HD in FinalCut Pro?

are you in the uk or ireland? it uses 220 power. I would not be able to comment on it I don't think it sells in usa we have 110/120 power.
I live in Italy, so no problems as we have 220 v power. What I was interested in is the quality of the device. At a first look it seems to me it is a firewire aluminium enclosure with a LG R/W optical drive inside (but I am not sure).
Best Regards

If a word processor can even be dumbed down, it's been poorly designed... Pages is my wp of choice now for just about everything. I find Word too noisy-- I have never used more than half the functions in Word (even after putting in a good effort to "learn to use them effectively").
I agree with the crowd that thinks compatibility is important. There's two levels of compatibility though-- functional and superficial. If they can make it functionally compatible with a reasonable subset of Excel functions, then it will be enough for me to use and share files.
There are times though when superficial compatibility is critical-- where it needs to print and format on another machine just the way you wrote it. I run into this problem with Keynote-- I can export something to Powerpoint to use as a starting point for cleanup, but it's rarely presentable straight from export.
right on ms word gives me a headache. i go from pages to word for phys class and it takes me longer to do it in word. iwork is good but it could be better. numbers will be welcomed addition, now i don't have to use excel

I answered your question... and you never responded. What happened?
I heard that you'd passed on.
Apparently the reports of your demise were greatly exaggerated.
Did you just call me a bastard?
And speaking of famous quotes... didn't you recognize that one?

But, I don't see camera makers doing that until GPS-locating of photos shows signs of taking off, which it doesn't, yet.
This feature needs a iTunes like integration to really take off and i think Apple is in the best position to pull this off. iPhoto can be made to work with all GPS enabled camera's and why not a PC version, Apple only needs a business model to make this step and the iPhone can be it.

Sorry for newbie question but if I have my music library on my imac and want to play it on my ipad, does the sync mean I dont actually have to move that music over to the ipad, taking up space but I can just play through the ipad?
I'm a bit confused at your question. When you sync your iPad with your computer, all the songs will be transferred onto there automatically. This is obviously if you apply those settings. You can only sync back songs that were purchased through iTunes, or download a third-party app that allows you to do so.

Just as coloured folders were dropped and re-introduced due to popular demand, I'd find it useful with certain tasks if icons / folders could be graded according to importance just like the star system in itunes, ie, bigger folder more important smaller less etc.
Granted in day to day tasks it may seem overkill, but combine this with colours & use of "spaces" on a cluttered desktop and I for one would use it often.

What version of Mac OS are you using? I've got a pair of TiBooks with original Airport cards connecting to my WPA networks.

I can't handle this.
iPad 2 without jailbreak, suuuuuuuucks.
Yeah yeah,faster....thinner.
But with no jailbreak, im looking at my friends with the first iPad and being actually envious.
I feel like a addict. I'll kiss a man for my jailbreak.
I know people are working hard to get it done, and there is no one who appreciates their work more than I.
Bless you jailbreakers.
Jesus smiles upon you.
Yeah right, I'm certain Jesus is for Jailbreak  :p

Hello,
For my Master's project I am looking to develop a WebGL application. The project will likely end up involving a huge amount of Javascript, and a small number of simple web pages (mostly to just act as containers for the WebGL). The Javascript will probably have an AJAX component.
My background, however, is mostly in the realm of strongly typed and compiled languages such as C/C++/Objective-C. Normally I use XCode to develop. I am a n00b when it comes to Javascript, though I do have some basic competence when it comes to web development.
So my question is ... what is the best (or what are the best) IDEs to use for such a project?
It would be helpful to have integrated debugging, but I imagine this might not be possible since I am going to be using WebGL. In the least I would want syntax coloring, as strong error checking as possible prior to runtime, good facilities to manage lots of files and revisions, and some facilities to speed up workflow. Any advice?

I will be interested in how this works out. Clearly Acer is not a software company, so using that to separate themselves would be a tricky move. (and I'm not talking OS change to an in house project, I'm talkings skins or apps for Android or Windows)
Top quality hardware with new and interesting form factors could help. I don't think they are moving to vertical business mode, as they will likely still use Windows and Android for their devices.
I'll be interested to see where this takes them. If this means they won't be selling any low end product in a few years, I see that as bad, because I don
't think they will do it as well as Apple.(who does sell low end products, but not really low end prices). But slightly thicker profit margins with bit high price on devices with improved quality could work.
As for the claim that Dell is all about volume, I disagree to some extent, admittedly they make their money by sell cheap devices. But things like the Streak 5 and Streak 7 aren't cheap devices nor are their smartphones.

Centris 660av, PowerMac 6100, Performa 6116, Quadra 660av, same form factor. These have been desirable systems in the past, but good luck selling a machine with no hard drive.
