Apple goes to all sorts of lengths to protect media files with FairPlay, yet they don't care about stuff like this. Shows where their focus is; protecting their own stuff and not giving a flying f--- about the user.

Apple has never cared about the user, this is not news. Apple only care about one thing: money

As for being tracked, I couldn't care less. In the UK, there are so many CCTV cameras, you can't do anything without it being recorded. No point getting upset about it...

Sorry, but that mockup is just stupid. Whoever made it obviously has no concept of Apple's product line. CONSUMER = WHITE OR BLACK. PRO = ALUMINUM. NEITHER = MIX OF IMAC WHITE + ALUMINUM. Every single frickin' product follows these guidelines. Get a clue.

You're doing what Marshall McLuhan described: looking in a rearview mirror to anticipate the future. You might even be being a little arrogant about it. Y'think? I mean, what about those aluminum iPod minis? that same format's suggested for new nanos. Apple's smart to delineate its lines, and you're smart to note that. But neither Apple nor you would be smart to think that delineation has to be sustained...what, forever? Like wide and narrow ties (hair styles, skirt lengths) moving in and out of fashion, Apple, IMHO, will establish distinctions and evolve them over time. It won't always happen: we'll never see a black Apple laptop again, like the early models, but... Oh, wait!!!

    bellbottoms forever
    peace out

Since there are no formal announcements schedule. Apple will just bring down the store, and the new products will appear.

They've recently done this when they announced the Mac Book, and the updated iMac Core 2 Duo's...

Apple always keeps us on the edge, because we just don't know how they will announce their new products...

Next Mac will be whatever the largest screen they make and fastest chip they have whenever this one dies.

Since you can only get the fastest processor with the largest screen your choice will be easy.

Am I the only one who thinks this is a non-story? You want to raise my eyebrows?... show me a time that Greenpeace, PITA or any of those other wack-o groups behaves like a bunch of grown-ups and doesn't get thrown out. Here's a headline:

I just bought my iMac before Apple went Intel, so i have no plans to upgrade just yet. I will probably hold out until summer 2008 and then get a MacBook Pro with the following specs:

    17" Screen (1920 x 1200)
3.0 Ghz Dual Core Processor (Santa Rosa)
    2 GB RAM
    512 MB Graphics Card
    250 GB Hard Drive (Perpendicular)
    HD-DVD or Blue-Ray Drive

I found this interesting comment on the making waves site - is it true. If it is then the commies at greenpeace need to stop bitching.

Greenpeace appears to have its facts in a muddle. I've studied the environmental performance of the leading companies and here is what I've found.
    1. Apple is rated best in class in environmental performance for both portables and desktops by the US Environmental Protection Agency's EPEAT tool (www.EPEAT.net). This tool is based on a 2006 IEEE standard for product environmental performance.
    2. In August, Greenpeace conducted extensive tests on leading laptop brands to establish whether or not they were compliant with a European substance ban directive. Apple's laptops were subjected to more than one hundred tests and they were unequivocally found to be RoHS compliant. Note that Greenpeace has subsequently buried this report.

    3. Greenpeace found 200 parts per million of TBBA (a harmless brominated flame retardant currently used by all manufacturers) in an Apple fan assembly. TBBA is not banned, and even if it were you would need to quadruple the quantity that was detected in the Apple fan assembly before it reached the European definition of concentration that are permitted for 'banned' substances.

    4. HP's laptop failed the compliance test, and Greenpeace ranked HP as the top performer in their August score-card ranking.

    5. Despite being ranked at the bottom of Greenpeaces scorecard, Apple is the only manufacturer to have commited to phasing out PVC and TBBA without qualifiers (i.e if economically viable)

    6. Apple is the only manufacturer to have eliminated DecaBrome from all plastic parts.

From my research, I can only conclude that Greenpeace is targeting Apple because of the 60 million iPod customers out there. Pity, I used to have a lot of respect for Greenpeace.

I don't really see this happening, if apple is going to take the risk of entering this competitive market, I see them doing it with a very innovative 'new' product.

I think the cell phone market is crowded, but so was the MP3 player market in there are really no killer phones out there, and not one phone really has a good UI, the same problems occur, everything is too complex, and it's hard to learn. Give us a clickwheel, clever Apple GUI, and functions people use, or will use, for a decent price, and you can really take on the market. the first years with very modest margins, but once the 3th party market starts joining in, you'll have the ipod effect all over

ok, but what cell phone provider are they going to use? Cingular? Verizon? I have verizon and really want them to have it.

Ugh, Americans and their providers. We may not have "free" ahum phones , but at least when you buy a cell phone, you know it will work with every company, and everywhere. And no hidden costs.

People don't understand what freedoms truly are. It doesn't mean you get to say and do whatever you want wherever you want - that's anarchy, and anarchy is bad... unless you're the biggest, strongest and most brutal. Freedom of speech really means you can't be jailed or otherwise punished by the government for saying what you want in a pulic arena.

Thank you! I was going to say the same thing... In general, people are clueless and often whine about censorship and how free speech is a thing of the past. What most don't realize is that we have more freedom of speech now then ever before. The key is free speech laws (as you stated) apply within a public domain - always have. What many (even most) fail to grasp is what is truly public grounds. As bitfactory noted "... and who thought shopping malls were public places? WTH? Honestly.", that is so true. I think many people fail to grasp that just because the general public is allowed inside an area does not make it a "public place".

I honestly don't buy very many movies at all, because I rarely watch a movie twice. I do like to rent them though, and anything that made that more convenient would be great.NetFlix! I've received 25 movies since the first one shipped July 24th! Incredible turnaround time! I'm on the 3-@-a-time plan. Honestly, if you don't want to watch more than once, just join Netflix! I'm glad I did.

So all Greenpeace did was hand out leaflets in areas other than their stand? So they didn't smash up the Apple stand or invade Adobe chanting and shouting.

They handed out leaflets and were ejected because no one's ever allowed to talk about the downsides of our throwaway consumer-trinket technojunk culture without being told to shut up.

Heck, every trade show I ever go to has girls with their tits half hanging out wondering the halls handing out leaflets nowhere near their particular stand.

Sad to see so many people now happy to have people's free speech stamped all over. No wonder Bush can dismantle the Bill of Rights and his lapdog Blair can swiftly remove centruries-old liberties with barely a whisper. I agree with Greenpeace's concerns. Vast toxic waste dumps with no proper processing are springing up across China.

If some fat overfed Westerner's kids had to live and play near a site like that they'd be up in arms! But, no, let's pretend the problems are somehow 'made up' by 'subversives' and need stamping out with the jackboots.

    This way, please. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyperbole)

Well its well known with Apple hardware to never buy the first generation of any new platform. The current MBA were a significant enough change from the previous to be known as a gen 1 all over again. Especially when we knew SB was around the corner. Still they are great as is.

It's also well known that that kind of thinking is complete nonsense. If I thought that way, I never would have bought:

    iPad 1
    iPad 2
    iPhone 4
    Apple TV 2

    To name a few.
Those are all great products that I'm enjoying trouble free thank you.

If everybody thought like that, Apple would cease to exist.

Normally Oprah tapes a ton of shows over the course of a few weeks, and they are edited and aired over the course of a couple months. So the idea of "tape today, show tomorrow" seems unlikely to me -- for one, they would have to be assuming Absolutely Nothing Goes Wrong during editing.

It could happen, but it seems too quick to me. Alternately, maybe they taped it earlier.

I agree. Sometimes I think this kind of lawsuits are a stretch and a bit silly, but not this time. When there's confusion even to me as a geek after a quick glance on these smarthpones, I have to agree that it's gone too far.

For me all phone look relatively the same at a glace so I always look at the buttons first.

    1 button - Apple
    4 buttons - Android
    3 button - Windows Phone

Then I look for a logo to differentiate further.

Apple is in a slow fall...
I love Mac's, and will always own one. However, the Intel Mac's are buggy as hell. (Still Not Compareable to Windows) The iPod's are not as good as the PSP, except for the large hard drive (and the ease of iTunes).

PSP better than iPod??in what sense??
